Privacy Policy

Current status. No analytics, no advertising and no third-party scripts run on this site. Its own code sets no cookies. Sections 2 and 3 describe what hosting necessarily involves, and what analytics would collect if it is ever switched on — neither is a description of something running today.

This Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data when you visit masterarjun.com, the personal and professional site of Arjun Nemical.

It separates three things deliberately, because they are genuinely different: what this site's own code stores on your device, what serving you a web page unavoidably reveals regardless of anyone's intentions, and what optional analytics would collect if and when it is switched on.

1. What this site stores on your device

This site's own code sets no cookies. It saves a small set of interface preferences in your browser's local storage — a related but separate browser feature — so it can restore your choices on your next visit:

• whether animated motion is turned on or off,
• whether ambient sound is turned on or off,
• whether the side navigation rail is collapsed, and
• whether you accepted or declined the cookie notice.

These values stay in your browser, on your device. The site reads them back locally; it does not send them anywhere, and none of them identify you. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them. See the Cookie Policy for the exact keys.

2. What serving this site unavoidably reveals

This is the part most privacy policies quietly skip, so it is stated plainly here. To send you a web page at all, the server has to know where to send it. Every request your browser makes therefore discloses:

• your IP address,
• the page or file requested, the date and time, and standard request headers including your browser and operating system (the user-agent string) and referring page, if any.

This is how the web works — it is a property of the HTTP protocol, not a tracking decision, and no site can opt out of it. Under the GDPR an IP address is treated as personal data, so it is disclosed here rather than glossed over.

This site is a set of static files with no application server, no database and no accounts, so I do not personally keep or look at server logs. The hosting provider necessarily handles the data above in order to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse.

The intended host and content delivery network is Cloudflare, which acts as a data processor on the site owner's behalf and describes this metadata as “extremely limited personal data, most often in the form of IP addresses”, processed for a limited period. Cloudflare also sets its own strictly necessary cookies — for bot detection and for challenge or rate-limit checks — which exist to keep the site available rather than to profile you. Cloudflare states that a separate bot-detection cookie is generated per site and that it does not track users from site to site or session to session. These are listed individually in the Cookie Policy.

3. Analytics

No analytics or tracking script runs on this site as of the date above. There is no advertising, no ad network, no social embed, no session recording, no fingerprinting and no profile of you or your visit.

The site owner intends to add aggregate analytics in future. Rather than describe that vaguely and update it after the fact, what those services collect is set out here in advance, from their own documentation.

If Google Analytics 4 is enabled

Google Analytics would, by its own account, automatically collect:

• Approximate location derived from your IP address. Google states that Analytics derives city (and the latitude and longitude of that city), region, country, continent and subcontinent from the IP. This is automatic and cannot be disabled by the site while Analytics is running — which is precisely why it is disclosed here.
• Device, browser and session information — screen and viewport, platform, language, pages viewed, and how long you stayed.
• A randomly generated identifier stored in first-party cookies (principally _ga, whose maximum documented duration is two years) so returning visits can be counted as one visitor rather than several.

On IP retention specifically, Google states that in Analytics 4 IP addresses are used to derive location and then discarded rather than logged, that IP addresses from the EU, Switzerland and the UK are dropped before the data is logged, and that for visitors elsewhere IP addresses are used transiently for spam detection, coarse location and routing before being discarded. Those are Google's representations about Google's own systems: they are repeated here because they are the relevant facts, but they are not something this site can verify or guarantee on Google's behalf. If Analytics is running, your data is processed under Google's Privacy Policy as well as this one.

The search box

This site has one text input: the search palette, opened with ⌘/Ctrl + K. What you type into it never leaves your browser. It filters a list of sections, projects and actions that is already part of the page you downloaded — there is no search request, no autocomplete lookup, and no suggestion service behind it. The text is never written into the address bar, never stored, and never included in any analytics event, and that will remain true if analytics is added later.

This is stated explicitly because it is a common and often unnoticed leak: on many sites, search terms are transmitted to analytics and advertising platforms as they are typed. If you want to confirm the claim rather than take it on trust, open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network panel, and type into the palette — you should see no requests at all.

Consent

Any analytics of this kind will be loaded only after you accept the cookie notice, not before, and declining will leave it switched off. The notice is already built for exactly this purpose. Strictly necessary hosting cookies described in section 2 are not covered by that choice, because without them the site cannot reliably be served at all.

4. Email

If you email the address published in the Channel section, that email is handled like any other personal correspondence. There is no mailing list, CRM or marketing automation behind it, and your address is not added to anything.

5. Your choices and rights

You can clear or block this site's local storage at any time in your browser settings; the only effect is that your interface preferences reset to their defaults. You can decline the cookie notice, and change your mind by clearing site data so the notice appears again. Browser-level tracking protection and blocking extensions work normally here — nothing on this site attempts to circumvent them.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data relating to you, and to object to its processing. Since this site keeps no database and no accounts, in practice there is usually nothing held about you to produce — but if you believe otherwise, write to the address below and it will be dealt with.

6. Changes to this policy

This policy will be updated when the site changes — most importantly before, not after, analytics is switched on. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
